Quick Recap: Braves 3, Mets 2 — Smell Ya Later, Larry

Presswire

The Braves completed a sweep of the Mets this afternoon at Citi Field. The Mets got on the board first when Daniel Murphy scored from second on an infield single by Ike Davis in the fourth. Chris Young pitched reasonably well, allowing two runs and striking out seven in seven innings despite the fact that he walked four and gave up five hits. David Wright tied the game with a double in the sixth.

Neither team scored again until extra innings, but Bobby Parnell loaded the bases on an infield single, an intentional walk, and an unintentional walk before giving up a one-out sacrifice fly to Brian McCann. Although he stopped the bleeding there, the Mets were not able to score in the bottom of the inning.

We knew it was over when...

Parnell walked Dan Uggla to load the bases with McCann coming to the plate in the tenth.

What else?

  • Chipper Jones didn't start the game, but he did appear as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning. The crowd at Citi Field gave him a nice ovation before he drew a walk and departed for a pinch runner.
  • Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 and scored both of the Mets' runs.
