Meet the Mets

The Mets' agreement with Shaun Marcum appears to be worth $4 million guaranteed with another $4 million in incentives attached to it. The deal looks to be a major bargain for the cost-conscious Mets. Longtime Mets' PR guy Jay Horwitz has joined the Twittersphere. Owner Jeff Wilpon challenged Horwitz that if he got to 10,000 followers by midnight last night, he'd give a donation to a charity of Jay's choice and he got to that mark with around a half hour to spare.

Matt Harvey is ranked 17th on Keith Law's list of top MLB talents under the age of 25 and Toby Hyde has the breakdown of what Law said about the Mets' young righty.

Recently signed Mets' catcher Landon Powell lost his four month old daughter to a liver condition. Our condolences go out to him and his family.

Around the Majors

MLB is investigating the age of Cuban shortstop Aledmys Diaz, who seems to have made himself slightly older to avoid having to count as part of a team's IFA bonus pool when signed.

Corey Hart had his knee surgery yesterday and it looks like he won't be back until mid to late-May.

The Royals grabbed catcher George Kottaras off of waivers from the A's yesterday. That's a nice little upgrade for Kansas City.

A $91 million loan to help build Marlins Park will likely cost Miami-Dade County a grand total of $1.2 billion when all is said and done. Jeff Loria is the worst.

The Nationals have added William Howard Taft as the 5th president in their president's race. He'd better be running around in a bathtub.
