Mets Morning News: Robert Carson and Mike Baxter both head to Los Angeles

New York Mets related news and links for October 18, 2013

The first roster moves have been made by the Mets as they attempt to make room on the 40-man roster. No-hit hero Mike Baxter was placed on waivers, and has been claimed by the Dodgers. Reliever Robert Carson was also claimed, he'll be heading to the American League half of the city. Sean Henn and Greg Burke both successfully cleared waivers and were outrighted to the minor leagues.

There are several arbitration eligible players in the Mets organization that would be candidates for multi-year deals, but it doesn't sound as if the Mets will be offering one to any of them this offseason.

One player who will be coming off the 40-man roster in the coming weeks is Johan Santana, and Andy Martino doesn't think that a reunion is very likely.

The Red Sox managed to knock off the Tigers to take a 3-2 lead in the ALCS.

The Dodgers will try to force a Game 7 when they play the Cardinals this evening, if you were ever curious about the red numbers on their uniforms, this is probably worth a read.

For anyone that wanted Jose Abreu, it's time to turn your attention elsewhere. Abreu has agreed to a 6-year deal to play for the White Sox, as plying in an AL bandbox just made far too much sense.
