David Wright and Eric Young Jr. have been announced as finalists for National League Gold Glove awards at third base and left field, respectively. Each position has three finalists, with the winners being announced on October 29.
Wright’s competitors for the award are Juan Uribe of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies. Wright won a Gold Glove in 2007 and 2008 and was a finalist last year. Wright put up +3.7 UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating) and +5 DRS (Defensive Runs Saved) in 2013, far behind Uribe, who put up +23.9 UZR and +15 DRS, and Arenado, who put up +20.7 UZR and +30 DRS.
Young actually rated as a negative defender by both UZR and DRS in 2013. Competing with Young for the Gold Glove in left field are Starling Marte, who was rated as a +10.1 defender by UZR and a +20 defender by DRS, and Carlos Gonzalez, who was seen as a +7.1 and +10 defender by UZR and DRS respectively.
Juan Lagares is not a finalist for the NL Gold Glove award despite being rated as the second best defensive center fielder in the NL by both UZR and DRS. The three finalists at his position are Carlos Gomez, Andrew McCutchen, and Denard Span.
