Get excited, people. The Mets today announced their 2014 spring training schedule. It starts in Port St. Luice on February 28 versus the Nationals and wraps up with a pair of exhibition matches versus the Blue Jays at old Olympic Stadium in Montreal on March 28 and 29.
Those games in Canada should provide a fun flashback for David Wright and his fans. The captain hit his first MLB home run at Olympic Stadium on July 26, 2004.
The opener against Washington will be one of 14 home games played by the Mets in spring training and one of 33 games overall. Besides Montreal, the Mets will play two other exhibition games outside of Florida. Those will be played in Las Vegas at Cashman Field, home of the 51s, on March 15 and 16. The Cubs will head up from Arizona to serve as an opponent.
As usual, there's not much variety among opponents on the spring slate. The Mets will play the Cardinals, Nationals, and Marlins six times each, while they face off against the rival Braves four times. The regular season begins on March 31 at Citi Field when New York takes on Washington.
