David Wright Scratched From World Baseball Classic Game With Soreness

David Wright was a last-minute scratch at the World Baseball Classic on Thursday night because of soreness.

Right before the United States of America was set to begin its game against the Dominican Republic this evening, David Wright was scratched with soreness. Originally reported as back soreness, Wright clarified that he's feeling pain in his rib cage, per David Lennon:

Wright is slated to see Mets doctors tomorrow in Port St. Lucie, which certainly doesn't sound good, and he was playing through the pain for the past few days. While that clearly didn't affect his performance for the United States, the Mets are obviously concerned about his status.

Per the MLB Network broadcast, Wright says he'd be playing if this were a regular season Mets game in April. That sounds like the type of thing he'd say whether it was really true or not, but perhaps it's not quite time to panic.
