The Mets didn't score as many runs today as they did last night, but Matt Harvey absolutely dominated the Twins as the Mets won again.
Through six-and-two-thirds innings, Harvey had issued a pair of walks but had not allowed a hit. With two strike on Justin Morneau, he threw a pitch on the inside corner of the plate, and Morneau turned it into a home run off the netting of Target Field's right field foul pole. The no hitter was gone, but Harvey finished the inning and set the Twins down in order in the eighth. He finished with six strikeouts, two walks, and just two hits and one run allowed.
The Mets did all of their scoring in the fifth inning. Marlon Byrd led off with a bomb of a home run, and the Mets added three more runs — despite Ike Davis getting thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double — on a barrage of hits.
Bobby Parnell made things interesting in the ninth, allowing a run in his first save opportunity of the year, but he struck out Ryan Doumit looking to end the game and preserve the victory.
