Final Score: Mets 2, Nationals 0 — Buck hits another home run, Gee and the bullpen shut out the Nats

The Mets took the rubber game of their three-game series with the Nationals.

What the buck!

The Mets defeated the Nationals at Citi Field this afternoon to take the weekend series from their division rivals. They scored first on John Buck's monster home run in the second inning, and they scored again on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Baxter in the fourth. Luckily, those two runs were enough to win the game.

Dillon Gee threw five-and-two-thirds innings without allowing a run, striking out six and walking three in the process. He walked the last two batters he faced in the sixth, though, and LaTroy Hawkins took over and struck out the only batter he faced to bail Gee out of the jam. Brandon Lyon, Scott Rice, and Bobby Parnell each managed a scoreless inning to close out the win, though each pitcher reached that destination via a different path.
