Mets Daily Farm Report - 4/22/13: Runs Galore In Binghamton; Runs At A Premium In St. Lucie

AAA - Las Vegas 51s (10-8)__________________________________

LAS VEGAS 7, COLORADO SPRINGS 8 (Box)

Sunday's game was a back and forth affair that, unfortunately, ended with the Sky Sox besting the 51s after scoring two runs in walk off fashion. Vegas starter Collin McHugh allowed a whopping 13 hits over his five-plus innings of work, but was able to limit the damage to only four runs (one of which was a Justin Hampson inherited runner that was able to score). Outside of McHugh, who was adequate, and Armando Rodriguez, who pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning, the 51s bullpen was very shaky- Justin Hampson was charged with two runs and did not retire a batter; Greg Peavey was charged with two runs over two innings, and Sean Henn relieved Peavey, and allowed those inherited runners to score (in the 9th inning). The Las Vegas offense was not bad, but they weren't able to put the game out of reach for the Sky Sox- and in that 9th inning, Colorado Springs made them pay for it.

AA - Binghamton Mets (10-7)_____________________________________

BINGHAMTON 15, NEW HAMPSHIRE 2 (Box)

Binghamton starter Logan Verrett turned in a generically decent start, allowing an earned run over five innings. He could have been terrible, for all it mattered, as Binghamton absolutely crushed New Hampshire pitching. Fisher Cat starter Deck McGuire was hammered, allowing eight earned runs on six hits, and he did himself no favors by walking 6 batters. The B-Mets scored one run in an inning (2nd), two runs in an inning (1st), three runs in an inning (9th), four runs in an inning (6th), and five runs in an inning (5th). Amazingly, none of those runs came via home run, and Binghamton notched only three extra-base hits- the majority of those runs came on chaining singles and walks together. Alonzo Harris had one hell of a game, going 4-5 with 3 stolen bases and a walk. Every single Binghamton player save Daniel Muno scored at least one run, while every player save Darrell Ceciliani had at least one hit.

ST. LUCIE 1, CHARLOTTE 0 (Box)

The St. Lucie Mets won yet again by a slim margin, edging out the Charlotte Stone Crabs 1-0. Hansel Robles was sharp, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six. The lone run scored in the game came in the top of the 5th inning, when Robbie Shields was able to come home on a routine force play that went awry and resulted in an error (Shields' run was ruled an earned run charged to Stone Crabs pitcher Felipe Rivero.

Lo-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (9-8)__________________________________

SAVANNAH 3, LAKEWOOD 5 (Box)

The Lakewood BlueClaws piled on a bunch of runs early in the game, and built themselves a lead padded enough to prevent Savannah from clawing back. Logan Taylor and Matthew Koch split pitching duties- Taylor allowed four runs (three earned) in his four innings, while Koch allowed only one earned run. Savannah didn't get on the board until the second third of the game, when Kevin Plawecki scored on a wild pitch. They scored again in the 8th and 9th innings, but not enough to put another notch in the win column for the year.

Star of the Night

For his 4-5 performance on the night, Alonzo Harris is well deserving to wear the star. And that doesn't even factor in his three stolen bases on the night. Or his walk.

Goat of the Night

The Las Vegas 51s bullpen cost the team the ballgame yesterday (they clearly are ready to become New York Mets). Of them, Justin Hampson's performance was particularly putrid, not even able to get a single, solitary out. He can wear the goat horns today and hopefully think about how he'll be a better pitcher from here on in.
