Although they twice trailed the Marlins this afternoon, the Mets came back to win the game, thanks in large part to John Buck's big day at the plate. It didn't hurt that Jon Niese's second start of the season was nearly as good as his first, either.
In six innings, Niese struck out five and walked two and allowed two runs, only one of which was earned. He allowed a run in the first inning on a two-out, two-strike bleeder down the third base line to Greg Dobbs, but John Buck's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning tied the game.
The Marlins scored again in the fifth on a Ruben Tejada error, but Buck answered again in the sixth with a two-run double to give the Mets their first lead of the day. Scott Atchison and Josh Edgin then combined to allow a run in the seventh, with Edgin giving up a game-tying single to — wait for it — Greg Dobbs.
Luckily, Mike Baxter drew a one-out walk in the seventh, sparking a three-run inning that put the Mets ahead for good. Brandon Lyon threw a scoreless eighth inning, Collin Cowgill tacked on an insurance run with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, and Bobby Parnell threw a flawless ninth inning to wrap up the victory.
