The Mets were blown out by the Pirates at Citi Field on Saturday afternoon as Jon Niese struggled mightily once again. In just four-and-one-third innings, Niese gave up eight runs, walked three, gave up two home runs, and only struck out one. Niese now has a 5.93 ERA and 5.31 FIP on the season, and he's walked more batters than he has struck out.
Francisco Liriano held the Mets to one run in five-and-one-third innings, struck out nine, and walked two. The Pirates tacked on a few more runs against the Mets' bullpen, while the Mets didn't scored just one on an Andrew Brown home run in the ninth. It was about as ugly as Mets baseball can get.
