The Mets lost to the Pirates for the third time in four games this afternoon. Matt Harvey wasn't his dominant self, but he still gave up just two runs in seven innings. He struck out four, walked two, and hit a batter, all of which were uncharacteristic of him but none of which were particularly poor.
Lucas Duda put the Mets on the board first with a solo home run in the second inning. Harvey gave up his pair of runs in the third, the first of which was the result of a solo home run by Clint Barmes. Mike Baxter knotted the game on a bloop single in the seventh inning, but three Mets relief pitchers combined to allow a run in the eighth. That, unfortunately, put Pittsburgh up for good.
