Jenrry Mejia transferred to 60-day disabled list

The once promising flamethrower is being moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Rick Ankiel on the 40-man roster.

USA TODAY Sports

The Mets announced this afternoon that Jenrry Mejia will be moved to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Rick Ankiel, who was just signed to a contract today and will be in the starting lineup tonight. Mejia hasn't pitched in a game this season due to elbow inflammation.

Once among the top prospects in the Mets farm system, Mejia's upside is now that of a productive bullpen arm. Last season at Triple-A Buffalo, Mejia had a 3.54 ERA in 73.2 innings that were split between starting and relieving. That doesn't sound too bad, but his 39 strikeouts and 24 walks don't exactly paint a pretty picture. Well, maybe the picture is pretty, but it doesn't look like a great MLB pitcher.
