Reds 4, Mets 3: G'day, Bruce

Mets drop opener of their series with Cincinnati, felled by a solo shot from Jay Bruce in the top of the sixth.

Andy Marlin

Shaun Marcum started things off with a bang, ceding three runs to the Reds in the top of the first, with some help from a weird interference call on Ike Davis. The Mets pulled even in the third on a three-run blast from Marlon Byrd, and the game remained tied until the top of the sixth, when Jay Bruce belted the first pitch he saw into the right field seats. After Byrd's homer, the Mets did virtually nothing against Reds starter Johnny Cueto and those who succeeded him, looking particularly bad when facing Cincinnati's flamethrowing closer, Aroldis Chapman. The Reds prevailed 4-3 to take the series opener.

Full recap to come.
