A 90 minute rain delay preceded a pitchers' duel that delivered as promised, as Matt Harvey and Hiroki Kuroda traded zeroes for five innings. In the top of the sixth, the Yankees capitalized on a Marlon Byrd error that put a runner in scoring position and brought him home on a Lyle Overbay single. It was sloppy evening all around for the Mets, and it appeared to be a game they had no license winning.
And yet...Mariano Rivera, making his (presumed) last appearance in Queens, came on for the save in the ninth, and somehow didn't record an out. Daniel Murphy doubled, then David Wright drove him in with a single and moved to second when a relay throw eluded the catcher. Lucas Duda brought things to an end by singling to right, sending Wright home with the walkoff winner. No, I'm not sure how this happened either.
Full recap to come.
