It's almost never fun when the Mets head to Turner Field to play the Braves and Friday evening's game seemed to fit the bill for a while. The Mets jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on John Buck's 10th home run of the season and they added to it with Lucas Duda's opposite field solo shot in the second frame. Atlanta's offense got to work against Shaun Marcum, scoring three runs and knocking the Mets starter out after 4.1 innings. In the seventh, they scratched out a run against Scott Atchison to take a 4-3 lead but in the next half inning, Marlon Byrd launched an improbable opposite field solo home run into the wind on new reliever Eric O'Flaherty's second pitch to deadlock the score at 4 apiece.
Things took a turn for the worse in the eighth inning. After Scott Rice recorded the first out on the only pitch he threw, Terry Collins lifted him for Brandon Lyon to face Evan Gattis, who ripped a home run to straight away center to put the Braves back in front. Down to their final three outs behind a run and with Craig Kimbrel on the hill, things didn't look good for our heroes. That is until the Captain David Wright stepped to the plate and launched a game-tying homer to right center. After Bobby Parnell snuffed out a Braves rally in the bottom of the 9th, the Mets took the lead on Ruben Tejada's RBI single in the 10th. Daniel Murphy cashed in an insurance run and Jeurys Familia came on for an impressive 1-2-3 save, the first of his big league career.
