Ruben Tejada to disabled list, Mets call up Omar Quintanilla

Tejada suffered a strained right quad late in last night's win over the Yankees.

It's funny how things work out like that, isn't it? Just yesterday we were talking about whether or not the Mets should keep Ruben Tejada on the major league roster, and then last night he got hurt and forced the front office's hand.

Omar Quintanilla has been tearing it up in Triple-A with a .333/.419/.484 line in 126 at-bats. For his career in the majors, he's been slightly less good, only hitting .220/.279/.302 in 691 at-bats. Hey, that's still better than the .209/.267/.262 that Tejada is hitting this season, so hooray, right?

The fact that Quintanilla was not on the 40-man roster yesterday was seen as a possible obstacle to his promotion, but the Mets quickly amended the situation by placing Frank Francisco on the 60-day disabled list.

Francisco has been dealing with elbow issues all season due to a procedure he underwent in December to remove bone chips. He was supposed to start a rehab assignment a couple of weeks ago, but Francisco suffered a setback and still hasn't pitched since February.
