White Sox 6, Mets 3 — Hefner's no Harvey, but who is?

The Mets' bats were silenced by Jake Peavy, and this time there was no Matt Harvey to redeem them.

Determined to not be one-hit again, the White Sox jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday night when Alejandro De Aza smacked a leadoff home run. The Mets responded with a solo shot of their own from Lucas Duda to start the bottom of the second, but the Southsiders exploited some well-placed soft hits in the top of the third to plate three runs against Jeremy Hefner. Chicago's Jake Peavy was in command from that point on, allowing almost no scoring opportunities to Mets hitters and spoiling the very few he did.

The White Sox tacked on a run in the top of the seventh with a trio of two-out hits against Scott Atchison. The Mets got one back on a Justin Turner RBI single in the bottom of the eight, then gave one back on a huge solo homer from Alex Rios in the top of the ninth. Though the Mets would scratch out another in the bottom of the ninth, Rios's longball provided more than enough runs for the Sox on a night when the Mets' went to bed early, and there was no Matt Harvey available to redeem them.
