It appears as if the Mets will be without their pie-throwing ginger for some time.
Manager Terry Collins announced that Justin Turner has an intercostal issue and may require a trip to the disabled list. It's not yet clear how serious Turner's injury is.
The Mets' backup infielder is hitting just .266/.307/.357 on the season and has been more notable for his use of cream (and apple) pies. However, his injury does present a problem for the Mets as he is the only capable utility infielder on the roster.
The most logical candidates to replace Turner on the roster would be Zach Lutz, who almost made it on the Opening Day roster over Turner, or Brandon Hicks from Triple-A Las Vegas.
For the Mets, this is the third time this season a player has had an issue with their intercostal muscles. Daniel Murphy missed almost all of spring training with an intercostal strain, and David Wright missed much of the World Baseball Classic with his own intercostal strain.
