Final Score: Mets 6, Braves 1 — Wheeler throws six scoreless, Mets somehow score six runs

The Mets won in Zack Wheeler's debut, sweeping the doubleheader on Harvey-Wheeler Day.

Scott Cunningham

Zack Wheeler threw six scoreless innings in his debut, and the Mets managed to score six runs late in the game to give the team a doubleheader sweep of the Braves. Wheeler's control was shaky, particularly in the first inning, but he got around five walks by striking out seven and allowing just four hits.

The Mets hadn't scored through the first six innings, but Josh Satin led off the seventh with a single. Anthony Recker hit a two-run home run to center field to put the Mets on the board.

Brandon Lyon coughed up a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Mets scored four times in the eighth to make the Mets' razor-thin lead a wide margin. David Aardsma threw 1.1 scoreless innings before Josh Edgin came in to notch the last two outs of the victory.
