Not even Matt Harvey could save the Mets from a sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins, baseball's worst team by a wide margin. Harvey allowed three runs in the first thanks to some bad luck on batted balls and terrible defense by the Mets, and he gave up a fourth in the second inning.
The Mets came back and took a 6-4 lead, but with Harvey's pitch count high, Terry Collins turned to the bullpen in the sixth inning. Scott Rice recorded just two outs, walked four, and gave up three runs in the inning. Brandon Lyon gave up a run in 1.1 innings, and LaTroy Hawkins gave up a three-run home run to Greg Dobbs in the eighth to seal the Mets' fate.
