New York Mets related news and links for Thursday, June 20, 2013

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

It was easy to forget that the Mets aren't a very good team on Tuesday, as the dynamic duo of Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler left us imagining what could be in years to come. Unfortunately, it will be the weekend before either of them is good to go again, so it was back to the Mets we've come to know and love on Wednesday. They lost 5-3 in what was generally a poorly played game of baseball, the full box score can be found here.

There was a roster move made yesterday, as Scott Atchison was placed on the DL with Andrew Brown being called up to replace him. Luis Mateo was also shut down yesterday, he'll be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Jeff Sullivan over at FanGraphs had an excellent piece abut the overwhelming Matt Harvey yesterday, and it's certainly worth the time it takes to read. This article was brought to our attention by a regular reader, who them emailed the link to tips@grission.com. If you read something you really enjoyed and would like to see it in the morning news, just send us an email and we'll make sure to link it.

Grant Brisbee had a piece about Zack Wheeler and the Mets young starting pitchers. Grant is always worth a read, and he really needs to write about the Mets more often. Hopefully the young pitching the Mets have coming through the system gives him plenty of reason to do so.

Yesterday at AA

June 19th in Mets history marked several excellent pitching performances, including the 100th career win for Dwight Gooden.

The Mets made a TRAID involving Eric Young Jr, and we had a primer so you can get to know a little more about the new outfielder.

Alex continued his profiles of the players we just drafted, looking at the players taken from rounds 26-30.

Around the NL East and the rest of baseball

Giancarlo Stanton didn't single-handedly win a game for the Marlins last night, meaning the Marlins lost again.

It took 11 innings, but the Nationals came out on top of the Phillies by a 6-2 score.

Houston has signed their top draft choice, right-hander Mark Appel.

That Yasiel Puig is looking like a pretty good player, as he and Chris Capuano were enough to beat the Yankees yesterday.
