David Wright hit a pair of homeruns last night, leading the Mets to a 4-3 victory and a series win over the Atlanta Braves. The Bullpen also did an excellent job in this game, although they had to after Jon Niese left in the 4th inning with shoulder pain. Niese is expected to head back to New York where he'll undergo further evaluation, the full boxscore from last night can be found here.
A trio of Mets prospects got promotions yesterday, with Bret Mitchell, Jayce Boyd, and Kevin Plawecki all being assigned to St. Lucie. All three have been very impressive this season, and hopefully they'll be just as good in the FSL.
Carlos Torres has had a good start to life with the Mets, and Ike Davis is also making progress as he looks to get his mechanics back in order. Hopefully both guys keep up the good work over the next couple of days.
Fangraphs had an interesting read on the history of Mets' second baseman, going back as far as (the other) Brian Giles and the 1983 season.
Many of you are probably familiar with The Happiest Recap, and you'll have an opportunity to get yourself a singed copy next Wednesday if you so choose. This would be a great time to remind you that if you read something that would look good in the morning news, email us at tips@grission.com.
Yesterday at AA
Alex has gone and outdone himself now, posting not one, but two sets of draft profiles yesterday. Rounds 31-35 were first up, followed shortly after by rounds 36-40. If you want to keep up on who has signed and who hasn't , we also updated the draft results tracker.
Paul DePodesta answered some questions on Twitter yesterday, and Eric made sure that you can read through the entire Q&A session for yourself.
June 20 in Mets history featured a game with a lot of homeruns, David Wright must have been reading.
Amazin' Avenue Audio had so much going on this week that it had to be broken into 2 parts. Both part 1 and part 2 are available for your listening pleasure.
Around the rest of baseball
The Rockies are obviously still reeling after the loss of Eric Young Jr, and just couldn't score enough runs yesterday to defeat the Washington Nationals.
The Marlins managed not to lose any ground on the Mets last night, beating the Giants by a 2-1 score. Who else isn't buying that the Marlins are dead?
The Phillies didn't play last night, but still managed to make an excellent night of baseball a little less excellent overall. I managed to catch the home opener of the Lake Monsters last night, and 'that guy' was sitting about ten rows behind me heckling the wrong team in a drunken stupor. When I turned around, I was less than shocked to discover him decked out in his Chase Utley jersey, flat brimmed Phillies hat with stickers still on the brim, and bright red Velcro shoes without the Velcro fastened. He's awesome, and I bet his first ever beer was as well.
