Mets pitcher Matt Harvey to appear in ESPN: The Magazine's "The Body" issue

Harvey follows in Jose Reyes's footsteps.

USA TODAY Sports

Matt Harvey's pitching has been described as near-pornographic this season, so it's of little surprise that he's taking the next step forward.

Along with 21 other athletes, Harvey will appear in the fifth edition of ESPN's The Body issue which hits stands July 12th. He will be appearing mostly nude. The magazine will also feature athletes such as San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, volleyball player/gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings, and Miami Marlins/possible future Met outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Harvey is the second Mets player to appear in the Body issue. Jose Reyes did it back in October of 2011. Shortly thereafter, he signed a free agent contract with the Marlins. So if there are any possible signs (there aren't) to be taken from Harvey appearing in it other than him being comfortable with his own body, it's . . . bye bye Harvey?

In news that no human being possibly needed to know, 64-year-old Mets manager Terry Collins said he had no interest in posing for the issue.
