The Mets beat the Pirates in their last game before the All-Star break. They got on the board early and often, plating three runs against Pittsburgh's young starter, Gerrit Cole. After singles by Eric Young Jr. and David Wright, Marlon Byrd drove in the first run of the game before John Buck drove in the second and third.
Dillon Gee got the start for the Mets and allowed just one run in six innings. He struck out two and walked one, and he enters the break with a 4.32 ERA as a result. Gee had a 6.34 ERA on May 25.
The Mets tacked on an insurance run on a Daniel Murphy triple that scored Eric Young in the seventh. Pittsburgh got a run against LaTroy Hawkins in the eighth, but Bobby Parnell shut the door with a scoreless ninth despite allowing a pair of singles.
Love the Mets.
