Final Score: Phillies 13, Mets 8 – Phillies' offense tells Jeremy to "go Hef yourself"

Jeremy Hefner was knocked out after just two innings as the Phillies rocked the Mets in the opener of the second half.

Jim McIsaac

Ouch. Let me say that again in caps and bold for you: OUCH! The Phillies put up 11 unanswered runs over the first three innings and that was plenty to sink the Mets in their first game of the second half, as they fell to the Phils 13-8.

Jeremy Hefner got the assignment tonight and the Phillies' offense knocked him around early for 8 runs over just two plus innings. Things didn't get much better for Greg Burke, who allowed four runs of his own over the next 2.2 innings. In an 11-0 hole by the fourth inning, they got a trio back on Marlon Byrd's 16th home run of the year and they managed to scratch out five more runs in the fifth, sixth, and ninth innings but the Phillies' early offensive outburst was too much for them on this day. David Wright hit his 14th home run of the year in the ninth, providing a nice little thrill at the end of the game for those of us who were still watching for whatever reason.
