The Mets beat the Braves at Citi Field this evening behind a strong start from Carlos Torres. Although he gave up a solo home run to Andrelton Simmons to begin the game, he didn't allow another run in six innings of work. Torres struck out six, walked two, and gave up seven hits.
Facing Kris Medlen, the Mets got on the board in the third inning when Torres singled to plate Juan Lagares. They tacked on three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, and four Mets relief pitchers—David Aardsma, Scott Rice, LaTroy Hawkins, and Bobby Parnell—combined for three nearly-perfect innings to close out the victory.
