Final Score: Mets 7, Braves 4 - Mets bats carry Wheeler to victory

Zach Wheeler was so-so, but the Mets were able to beat up on Alex Wood and the Braves bullpen.

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sport

On a surprisingly cool afternoon at Citi Field, Zack Wheeler was able to secure his first Citi Field win and a series split for the Mets against the Braves. Wheeler was not especially sharp, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks in six innings, including home runs by Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman. However, it would be enough because of a major offensive outburst by the Mets.

The Mets piled up 14 hits and five walks in eight innings. After getting down early, they scored four runs in the third inning off Braves rookie Alex Wood on an RBI single by Marlon Byrd, a Justin Turner ground out, and a two-run single by John Buck. The Braves were able to tie it over the next three innings, but the Mets quickly responded in the sixth, on a Daniel Murphy RBI single, a David Wright RBI "triple", and a Buck RBI double.

That would be enough for the Mets bullpen, who held the Braves scoreless over the final three innings.
