This Week In Mets Quotes: Anonymous Scout has an inside scoop on Marlon Byrd, Ike can take the boos, Eric Young Jr. is a classy dude

Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

Seriously, only the Mets could have a player hurt by his own bat.

"I'm sure it's going to be a little sore, but could have been worse I guess. I feel fine beside being a little sore to the touch." —David Wright [ESPN]

SEE!

"I was a little concerned obviously. Anytime you get hit in the head with anything, we had couple years ago [Angel] Pagan hit himself in the head and was out a week I think." —Terry Collins [ESPN]

I don’t think you do.

''I don't know what it is about the Phillies. I know how to get them out, I just need to execute." —Jeremy Hefner [Yahoo!]

Bold claim by Anon.

"Lots of teams are watching Marlon Byrd whether they admit it or not." —Anonymous Scout [ESPN]

Got to feel for the guy.

"This is not how I wanted to go into free agency." —Tim Hudson joking to Terry Collins [ESPN]

Horrifying stuff, but just class acts all around.

"I'm hustling down the line like I always do, going for the base," Young said. "I saw his foot, as I'm going for the base, right there in the middle, as I came down, I knew I didn't get any of the base. I know I got all of his foot. I pretty much knew it was probably broke right as I did it, and that's why I sprinted right back to him and tried to console him as much as I could and apologize. I was able to see Tim before they took him to the hospital. He told me it wasn't my fault, just one of those freak plays that happened." —Eric Young Jr [New York Post]

You could also start playing better…

"I’m just going with, I’m an away player now so it doesn’t really affect me." Ike Davis [ESPN]

…because good players don’t get booed.

"Last year in the first half, [Ike] got booed. [When] he started hitting homers he got cheered. It’s just the nature of the game." —Terry Collins [ESPN]

Could’ve stopped at ‘get a hit.’

"It definitely feels great to get [a hit], off a curveball, and to get the winning run across the plate. And to drive the ball -- I hadn’t driven the ball in a while." Ike Davis [ESPN]

We must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling.

"That's baseball. You have to keep working hard and keep your head up, not down." —Jenrry Mejia [ESPN]

Yeah, we’re trying to win games, bring in Gonzalez German.

''I just told [Wheeler] to hang in there. I just said, 'Look, you can only do it as best you can for as long as you can. You could just tell he was out of gas. Yeah, I could have let him go one more hitter, but we're trying to win games, too.'' —Terry Collins [ESPN]

No one tell him that LOB% tends to average out no matter what.

''I really concentrate. I really pride myself, if guys are in scoring position, that they're not going to score.'' —Zack Wheeler [Yahoo!]

You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

''I read the articles and obviously I was embarrassed by them. The way I was portrayed is not who I am and not the person who I am. I'll deal with it on the field and fortunately I was able to do it today.'' —Matt Harvey [Yahoo!]

#playoffpush

"Obviously it's frustrating. The team is playing well, we're playing good defense and we're scoring runs. I'm not holding up my end of the deal. I want to be a big contributor to this team, and to make a playoff push we have to win a lot of games in a hurry and to have my performance tonight is unacceptable." —Jeremy Hefner [ESPN]

Phillies Quote of the Year

''You have to keep thinking that maybe one of these days you will stay up.'' —Charlie Manuel, regarding staying over .500…I hope. [Yahoo!]
