Mets Morning News: Mets win in Miami, Byrd still the word

New York Mets related news and links for July 30, 2013

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets didn't play the prettiest game last night, but some pretty good work from the bullpen and more offense than we are used to seeing was enough for them to escape Miami with a win. The full box score can be found here.

We're quickly approaching the TRAID deadline, and there doesn't appear to be too much going on with the Mets at the moment. Marlon Byrd appears to make the most sense for the Mets to deal, but there doesn't seem to be anything going on there at the moment.

We took a look at the upcoming (at the time) series with the Marlins.

The Mets aren't really accomplishing anything by leaving Ruben Tejada in the minors, especially as Omar Quintanilla hasn't done so well of late (we also had the pitcher performance meter for you yesterday).

There was an excellent FanPost taking a look at Jenrry Mejia's dominant start.

July 29 in Mets history featured the acquisition of Carlos Baerga.

We had our daily look at what's going on down on the farm, where Noah Syndergaard continued to dominate.

Around Baseball

The Phillies didn't play last night, but there was plenty of talk about them anyway. They are telling teams that Chase Untley is not available, but it seems that both Cliff Lee and Michael Young are. Jimmy Rollins won't be waiving his no trade clause, and nobody has even the slightest interest in acquiring Jonathan Papelbon.

The Braves managed a 10-inning victory last night, winning and a walk off triple. They also added reliever Scott Downs yesterday, and didn't give up a ton to do so.

The Orioles look like they'll be buyers at the deadline, and may have even made top prospect Dylan Bundy available. Marlon Byrd is available...
