Meet the Mets

Zack Wheeler took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Mets defeated the Marlins 4-2 in 10 innings. Wheeler went 6.1 innings before the Marlins broke it up and ultimately tied the game in the seventh. John Buck's two-run single gave the Mets the victory in extra innings.

Jenrry Mejia goes to the hill tonight for his second start of the year and he'll face off against Henderson Alvarez.

The Mets expect the trade deadline to pass quietly, as they seem unlikely to move Marlon Byrd and have gotten few bites on any other players.

Zack Wheeler was fantastic yesterday but it's tough to balance refining his mechanics with him pitching in the big leagues.

Jon Niese was in the Mets' clubhouse in Miami yesterday and he thinks he can get back to the team after two more rehab starts.

Mets' prospect Bradley Marquez is headed back to Texas Tech and in doing so, he left some money on the table. In order to collect the rest of his signing bonus, Marquez had to choose to stick with baseball full-time this year.

Chad Qualls' fist pump-barrel roll is right here and the greatest thing ever.

Around the NL East

The Nationals fell to the Tigers 5-1.

The Braves beat up on the Rockies 11-3.

The Phillies defeated the Giants 7-3. They promoted third base prospect Cody Asche to the big leagues which seems to point to a Michael Young trade in the next few hours. With the Red Sox out on Cliff Lee, he may stay put.

Around the Majors

TRAIDS! The Red Sox acquired Jake Peavy in a three-way deal with the Tigers and White Sox. Meanwhile, the A's acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Angels for Grant Green.

This trade deadline is awful, says Grant Brisbee. Me: agree.

John Hart discussed strategies that teams use when buying and selling at the trade deadline.

Should the Red Sox call up top prospect Xander Bogaerts? Well, with Jose Iglesias on the Tigers now, they're probably a Stephen Drew injury away from that.

The Dodgers inked former Giants' closer Brian Wilson to a minor league deal. I think I liked baseball a lot better without him.
