Open Thread: MLB trade deadline

We want trades now, not three years from now. That's our stance.

Greg Fiume

Major League Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is at 4:00 pm EDT today. Since the Mets are clearly still in the process of rebuilding, it wouldn't be surprising to see the team trade Marlon Byrd, Bobby Parnell, or almost any other player not named David Wright, Matt Harvey, or Zack Wheeler.

The Mets have insisted publicly that they're not trading Byrd or Parnell unless they're "blown away" or "bowled over" by an offer from another team. Perhaps the Mets will hold on to Byrd like they did last year with Scott Hairston last year, but it's hard to imagine they would keep him if they receive an offer that's really worth accepting.

The biggest deadline trade thus far was the Jake Peavy acquisition by the Red Sox, who completed a three-team trade last night. The Athletics also made a deal, picking up Alberto Callaspo from the Angels.
