Mets Trade Rumors: Marlon Byrd drawing late interest from teams

The Pittsburgh Pirates are believed to be one of the interested teams.

After all signs pointed to the Mets doing nothing before the deadline, there is some rumbling of a possible move.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post is reporting that Marlon Byrd is getting "hits" from other teams. The Mets are making counteroffers, and the Pirates are believed to have interest in him.

Byrd is hitting .282/.325/.512 with 17 HRs in 92 games while playing solid defense in right field. The Pirates would make sense, considering the .248/.305/.391 line from their right fielders this season.

Other teams that have shown interest in him include the Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds.

Much like Scott Hairston last season, the Mets do not appear content to get a fringe prospect for Byrd. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reported a few days ago that the Mets were looking for a top 10-15 prospect for him.

It's unclear if the Mets' price will relent as time passes. The trade deadline is less than two hours away.
