Final Score: Mets 4, Diamondbacks 1 — Zack "Whacking Day" Wheeler

Zack Wheeler threw six-and-one-third very good innings as the Mets won.

Ralph Freso

The Mets recovered from a walk-off loss on Friday night with a win on Saturday night in Arizona. Zack Wheeler had his best start yet as a big league pitcher; he threw six-and-one-third innings, struck out four, walked none, and allowed just one run.

The Mets scored first in the game, beginning with a Juan Lagares solo home run in the fourth inning. Wilmer Flores drove in a run later in the inning on a single.

Arizona's only run came on a solo home run by Aaron Hill against Wheeler in the seventh. The Mets tacked on a couple of insurance runs in the eighth on another single by Flores. Scott Rice, Carlos Torres, Pedro Feliciano, and LaTroy Hawkins combined to shut down Arizona through the rest of the game.
