Mets Morning News: Mejia excellent in loss, Flores to spell Murphy at second

New York Mets related news and links for August 13, 2013

The Mets played the Dodgers last night, and Jenrry Mejia had another very good game on the mound. Despite the solid start though, the Mets ended up losing to the NL's most expensive team by a 4-2 score. Your haiku of the game can be found here, video highlights can be found here, and the box score can be found here.

Prior to the game, Terry Collins talked about Wilmer Flores for a bit. He doesn't plan to try the youngster in the outfield, but will use him at different spots in the infield while trying to find him a home for the future.

It also looks as if Ike Davis will be seeing some at bats he hasn't been getting, as Terry Collins is planning to use him against left handed pitching going forward.

Yesterday at AA

Monday saw some new performance meters published, with both pitchers and hitters showing up on the front page. It also saw the latest installment of Amazin' Avenue Audio released for your listening enjoyment.

We had our own preview of the series with the Dodgers, and then had a preview with a Dodgers perspective as well.

Finally for yesterday, we had a pretty excellent look at Zack Wheeler's first nine starts using PITCHf/x.

Around Baseball

It looks inevitable that the Braves are eventually going to win the NL East, but Cole Hamels and the Phillies shut them down last night. I'm still not buying that the Phillies are dead...

The sun set in the west. The Marlins lost. The sun rose in the east.

Yu Darvish found his inner Matt Harvery last night, and took a no hitter into the 8th inning. The first hit Darvish gave up went over the right field wall, but the Rangers held on to win 2-1 anyway.

I love PITCHf/x analysis, so here's a second article of that sort for today. This one feature Jhoulys Chacin.

Delmon Young is jobless again, and it's not very clear where he's going to end up.
