Meet the Mets

The Mets fell to the Padres in Travis d'Arnaud's big league debut by a score of 8-2. Jenrry Mejia started but left in the 4th inning with elbow discomfort. After that, David Aardsma and Carlos Torres took them out of the game.

Happy Harvey Day! Matt Harvey takes the mound this afternoon and he'll match up with veteran lefty Eric Stults, a guy the Mets' offense never seems to have an answer for.

Mejia's season may be in jeopardy at this point. The flareup was related to the bone spur in his elbow, so it may be better for him to shut it down now and have the surgery so he's ready for next season.

With d'Arnaud's big league arrival, the Mets are hoping that their minor leaguers can make a major difference. Baseball Prospectus has a scouting report on the catcher (it's a pay article but you can read a good chunk of it for free).

Around the NL East

The Phillies have gone three days without scoring a run as they fell to the Dodgers 5-0.

The Marlins lost to the Giants 6-4.

The Braves and Nats played well into the night but the Nats won 8-7 in 15 innings on Adam LaRoche's home run. Stephen Strasburg was ejected after hitting Justin Upton and throwing behind Andrelton Simmons.

Around the Majors

39-year old Miguel Tejada was suspended 105 games for amphetamine use. Tejada apparently tested positive twice for Adderall after his therapeutic use exemption expired. Related to this, Mike Pelfrey discussed his own use of Adderall, which he's used legally since 2009.

Alex Rodriguez's new lawyer claims that the Yankees hid the results of an MRI last season and that they're working with Bud Selig to nullify his contract, among other things. This story gets more hilarious by the day.

Jose Abreu has picked a stateside agent to work with as he seeks out a contract with a major league organization.

Bud Selig is on the case with the Rays' stadium issues in St. Petersburg. Yay?
