Final Score: Tigers 6, Mets 1 - Dice-K mauled

Daisuke Matsuzaka's Met debut did not go well, and Doug Fister held the Mets' bats at bay.

Rich Schultz

After being signed by the Mets yesterday, Daisuke Matsuzaka was asked to make his first MLB start in almost a year, on short rest, against one of the best lineups in baseball. Predictably, it did not go well, as he allowed two homers and five runs in five innings, as the Mets fell 6-1 to the Tigers on Friday night.

The Tigers got to Dice-K early as he gave up a solo homer to Torii Hunter in the first. Hunter would strike again in the second, hitting an RBI double over Juan Lagares' head to make it 2-1. With two outs, and runners at second and third, the Mets opted to pitch to Miguel Cabrera, and it cost them as he launched Dice-K's first pitch well into the seats in left, making it 5-1 and essentially putting the game out of reach. They would add another run in the seventh on an Austin Jackson solo homer.

Squaring off against the Mets was a former member of #6org, Doug Fister. He allowed ten baserunners in 6 1/3 innings but only gave up one run, a Marlon Byrd RBI single in the first, thanks to 10 ground outs and two double plays. The Mets would put two runners on in the eighth, but he flew out to end any chances of a rally.
