Final Score: Tigers 11, Mets 3 – Make it stop. MAKE IT STOP!

Travis d'Arnaud hit his first big league home run but the Mets lost a game that you probably don't want to watch again or remember.

Jim McIsaac

The Tigers completed a sweep of the Mets at Citi Field this afternoon, trouncing them 11-3 in the series finale. Dillon Gee allowed a pair of two-run home runs and the Mets got a momentary jolt from Travis d'Arnaud in the fourth inning but an ugly ninth inning all but sealed up the sweep for the Tigers.

Dillon Gee started for the Mets and was just okay. He allowed a majestic two-run home run to Miguel Cabrera in the first inning, his second of the series. The Mets scratched out one run in the third before Travis d'Arnaud stepped up against Rick Porcello and launched his first career home run to left-center field, a two-run shot to give the Mets a momentary 3-2 lead. That lasted until the sixth inning when Andy Dirks hit a two-run shot of his own to right-center field off of Gee. Ahead 4-3, the Tigers broke things wide open in the ninth against the aged duo of LaTroy Hawkins and Scott Atchison. The Tigers loaded up the bases and just hit a bunch of bloops and seeing-eye singles to help put up a seven spot. It was a "death by 1,000 papercuts" type of inning, a perfect way to polish off a mostly dreadful series against the leaders in the American League Central.
