The big news yesterday did not involve the way the Mets played on the field, but they had a game nonetheless. Zack Wheeler and Cliff Lee got locked into a pretty fantastic pitcher's duel, which resulted in a Phillies win. Video highlights can be found here, while the box score can be found here.
The game was a bit of an afterthought due to the news that Matt Harvey has a partially torn UCL. Sandy Alderson spoke on the matter, and said that how the injury is treated is still yet to be determined. There's a very good chance that we don't see Harvey in 2014 though, and that's a scary thought.
Harvey isn't the only one that got bad news yesterday, as Jeremy Hefner is set to undergo Tommy John surgery as well. That means that Hefner will likely miss the entire 2014 season, and won't be a part of the group trying to replace Matt Harvey. Marc Normandin doesn't think that should significantly alter the plan this offseason though,
Chase Huchingson was suspended for 50 games yesterday for his second failed test involving 'drugs of abuse'. Jack Leathersich was demoted to AA Binghamton to fill his spot on the roster.
Several players have been brought back to New York in the event that the Mets make a few trades in advance of the non-waiver trade deadline.
