Reports from Jon Heyman this morning say that Marlon Byrd has been claimed off waivers by an unknown National League team and that the Mets are in the process of shopping him, as well as five or more players on the big league roster. Aside from Byrd, Adam Rubin also mentions John Buck and Pedro Feliciano as possibilities to be moved. Pure speculation here but LaTroy Hawkins is another veteran who could be valuable to a contender's bullpen. Rubin also mentions in his article that the Mets could be looking to include players under the team's control beyond this season in those trade discussions. It's tough to speculate who that could be but somebody like Daniel Murphy or Lucas Duda could fit that description.
In preparation for a potential move, the Mets have already summoned catcher Anthony Recker, outfielder Matt den Dekker, and lefty reliever Robert Carson from Triple-A Las Vegas. This is all developing pretty quickly but it sounds like a move or moves will happen soon.
