Final Score: Mets 3, Nationals 2 — Amazins squeak one out in D.C.

The Mets rode Dillon Gee and their bullpen to a victory.

Rob Carr

Continuing the trend of non-Dice-K starters pitching well, Dillon Gee was very effective, leading the Mets to a 3-2 victory on Friday night. He allowed just two runs in 7 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out three. Both runs off of him came on solo homers, one from Wilson Ramos in the third and the other from Steve Lombardozzi in the eighth.

The Mets got all of "their" offense from an Ike Davis two-run shot in the fourth off of Jordan Zimmermann. They were held in check the rest of the way, but managed to add a third run when with two outs in the eighth and a runner on second, Andrew Brown hit a slow roller to Ryan Zimmerman, who foolishly tried to throw out Brown at first. His throw was spiked, allowing Daniel Murphy to score from second.

Things got a little messy in the eighth, as Bryce Harper came up with two outs and two runners on. However, Scott Rice managed to get him to ground out to second to end the inning. LaTroy Hawkins threw a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth for the save.
