Mets demote Robert Carson, will recall Vic Black

The Mets made a roster move and will likely make another one soon.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Following the Mets' defeat of the Nationals on Saturday night, the team sent Robert Carson back to Triple-A Las Vegas and said it would recall recently-acquired Vic Black in time for tomorrow's series finale in the nation's capital.

Carson has allowed a boatload of home runs in his limited time in the big leagues this year. Black was the player to be named later in the trade that sent Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pirates. Our own Alex Nelson wrote up a scouting report of Black and summed him up like this:

If a pitching coach can improve Black’s tempo and improve the consistency in Black’s glove-side mechanics, he can be a dominant reliever, a top setup guy or a closer. Of course, if it were easy, it would have happened before Black turned 25, and I have to believe that someone has at least suggested calming down his delivery’s setup before, likely to negative results. Mostly, you just have to trust Black to improve with more experience, something that may or may not happen.
