SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (BEST OF FIVE)

GAME ONE

SAVANNAH 1, HAGERSTOWN 6 (Box) - Hagerstown leads the series 1-0

It was the opening game of a best of five series to see which team gets to call themselves Kings of the Sally League and it did not go well for the Savannah Sand Gnats as they lost 6-1 to the Hagerstown Sun. It would seem that the nine and a half hour bus ride had an effect on the Gnats' bats because they managed just four hits in this nine inning affair. Luis Cessa got the start and was decent, going 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Savannah wasn't able to get onto the board until the seventh, when Jeff Reynolds drove in Stefan Sabol from second with an RBI single. Any hopes of a dramatic comeback were dashed in the bottom of the 8th, when Estarlin Morel was tagged for three insurance runs. The series continues Tuesday at 7:05 PM EST with Seth Lugo taking the mound.
