Meet the Mets

The Mets were off yesterday, probably because the schedule-makers knew that we would all need a day to mentally prepare ourselves for the return of former Mets prospect Yusmeiro Petit to Flushing. After match-ups with both Petit and Kazmir this year, I am just waiting for a Matt Peterson comeback. These things come in threes, right?

Mark Simon has some 'Met'rics for you from the final Marlins series of 2013, in case you were wondering just how bad the Mets offense is.

Matt Harvey met with Dr. James Andrews yesterday, and the team will make an official announcement on his status sometime today. Guessing the announcement will be a date and time for surgery unfortunately.

We may be losing Matt Harvey, but we are gaining Jerry Seinfeld. Well, for one game at least. So, is it GKRJ or GJKR?

Faith and Fear reports from a parking lot wiffle ball game outside Citi. Probably more entertaining than the games inside Citi right about now.

And it seems like Lucas Duda is adjusting well to the move to first base.

Yesterday at AA

Chris McShane brought you another edition of Meter Avenue, featuring our weekly performance meters for Mets pitchers and hitters. Note: The hitter one is not for the faint of heart.

And Rob Castellano delved into Travis d'Arnaud's pitch-framing skills.

Around the NL East

Cliff Lee facing the Marlins? That's like shooting fish in a barrell.

Yesterday's Nationals/Braves game was postponed due to the shooting at the Navy Yard. The teams will play a day/night doubleheader today.

Around MLB

Here is all of Monday's action in one handy dandy scoreboard. Of particular note: Okay, now the Rangers are really in trouble.

Jeff Sullivan tries to find examples of Barry Zito bringing the heat. He succeeds, sort of.

Rob Neyer tries to figure out why Cleveland fans are still staying away from the Jake.

And most nights I would be glued to the TV for Yordano Ventura's debut, but tonight is not most nights. #PETIT #PETIT #PETIT
