Final Score: Giants 8, Mets 5 — Wheels of strike zone confusion

Zack Wheeler had a poor start, but the bullpen was almost as bad as the Mets lost.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost to the Giants at Citi Field as Zack Wheeler made a poor start. In five innings, the rookie gave up four runs, walked six, and struck out just three. He had a particularly tough time in the second inning, during which the Giants scored their first three runs of the game.

The Mets came back to take the lead with a run in the third and three runs in the fourth, but the team's bullpen gave up four more runs to turn the lead back over to San Francisco. The Mets plated a run in the bottom of the ninth, but a potential game-tying rally came up short.
