Final Score: Mets 4, Reds 2 — Murphy's blast springs Leake

The Mets' bats were quiet for most of the night, but a Daniel Murphy three-run homer in the second proved the difference in their win in Cincinnati.

Andy Lyons

The Mets broke out on top with a four-run top of the second that chased Reds starter Mike Leake from the game, capped by a three-run blast from Daniel Murphy. Their bats went to sleep after that, lulled to slumber by the Reds' bullpen, but the second inning outburst was enough to guarantee victory. The Reds scratched out single runs against Jon Niese in the second and fifth innings but nothing else through seven, while Scott Atchison and Vic Black combined to shut the door on Cincy in the last two innings, incidentally earning hopeful closer Black his first big league save.

Full recap to come.
