Final Score: Mets 1, Reds 0 — Daisuke Matsuzaka throws a gem

Daisuke Matsuzaka went seven-and-two-thirds scoreless as the Mets won.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets beat the Reds 1-0 in Cincinnati this afternoon behind a very good start by Daisuke Matsuzaka. The veteran righty went seven-and-two-thirds innings without allowing a run, struck out six, walked two, and gave up just four hits. Pedro Feliciano finished off the eighth inning, and LaTroy Hawkins threw a one-two-three ninth to shut the Reds out.

There wasn't much production from the Mets' lineup in the game, either, but Wilfredo Tovar was hit by a pitch to begin the third inning. Matsuzaka bunted him over to second, he moved to third on a wild pitch by Mat Latos, and he came in to score on a single by Eric Young Jr.
