Final Score: Mets 5, Braves 2 — Amazins beat up Atlanta's scrubs

The Braves didn't play a lot of good players, but the game still counts. Dillon Gee posted another solid start.

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves came into today up by 15 games in the National League East, and it showed. Manager Fredi Gonzalez rested Andrelton Simmons, Chris Johnson, Brian McCann, and virtually off of his pitchers today in order to not overextend a club that seems destined for the postseason. The Mets won 5-2 with all five runs coming against Braves spot starter Kameron Loe.

Andrew Brown got things started in the first with a long two-run home run into the left field seats. The Mets would add on in the third. Lucas Duda led off the frame with a solo home run to right field, and later Juan Lagares would get a run in with an RBI ground out. Dillon Gee capped off the scoring for New York with a fluky RBI single that somehow fell in between Atlanta "outfielder" Evan Gattis and Atlanta outfielder B.J. Upton.

Of course, Gee's key contribution today was on the mound. Perhaps the most underrated pitcher on New York's staff was pleasantly effective once again with just one run allowed (a B.J. Upton sac fly in the fifth) in seven innings. Gee struck out five Braves and walked just one (B.J. Upton again, the first Braves batter of the game). Meanwhile Lucas Duda looked wonderful at the plate and was just a triple short of the cycle.
