With the deadline to set 40-man rosters in advance of the Rule 5 draft coming up at midnight, the Mets have purchased the contracts of six players, all of whom are pitchers: Noah Syndergaard, Cory Mazzoni, Hansel Robles, Gabriel Ynoa, Akeel Morris, and Jack Leathersich. Of the six, all but Leathersich are right-handed.

Coming into the day, the Mets had just five open spots on the 40-man roster. To make room, the team removed right-handed pitcher Jeff Walters from the roster. The 27-year-old had an 8.86 ERA in 21.1 innings  for the Las Vegas 51s in 2014 before his season was cut short by Tommy John surgery.

Perhaps the most surprising player left off of the 40-man roster was 24-year-old right-handed-pitcher Logan Verrett, who many people expected would be protected. Conversely, there was some talk that Ruben Tejada, Eric Young Jr., and Cesar Puello could be removed from the roster to make room for other players, none of which happened today.
