Mets Morning News: Juanderful news as Lagares wins his first Gold Glove!

Your Wednesday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

Juan Lagares won his first career Gold Glove award in center field, an award that was an inevitability if you watched him play all season. Hopefully it's the first of many for him!

Awards season isn't over yet for the Mets, as Jacob deGrom was officially named one of three finalists for the NL Rookie of the Year award. That award will be announced on Monday.

Veteran slugger Mike Morse could be on the Mets' radar this winter. He'd be a great platoon mate with Lucas Duda and he has a great bat but his defense in left field and past injury issues are worrisome if he's going to be starting in left field. Morse is among five free agents the Mets could pursue this winter.

Curtis Granderson spoke yesterday about the wall changes at Citi Field and the hiring of Kevin Long. Granderson thinks the Mets are "really close" and he downplayed the impact of the shorter fences.

Mark Simon began a look back at the top 10 defenders in Mets history.

Around the Majors

The Dodgers have hired Oakland executive Farhan Zaidi as their new GM under Andrew Friedman. Another excellent hire for the Dodgers.

Alfonso Soriano says he's retiring after the Yankees released him during the 2014 season.

Russell Martin is one of the top free agents this winter and the Cubs are one of the teams preparing to make a push for him. The Cardinals expect to chase after lefty Andrew Miller.

Clubs are targeting former Mets outfielder Marlon Byrd on the trade market this winter. Meanwhile, the Phillies are also trying to trade first baseman Ryan Howard which...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Excuse me.

Now that the Cubs have hired Joe Maddon, what do they do next?

Yesterday At AA

Chris McShane took a look at free agent outfielders that the Mets could sign.
